How To Have Real Victory

March 28, 1992 was a Saturday afternoon that will be etched in the mind of sports fans for a long time to come. Every fan of Duke University and the University of Kentucky can tell you exactly where he or she was at the exact moment that Grant Hill and Christian Laettner hooked up to change the agony of defeat into the thrill of victory.

Many athletes have experienced the happiness of winning a championship. Often the exuberant feelings that come from victories on the court or field are short lived. Today you can find the way that will give you real victory in every area of life that will last for all eternity. I have a trophy sitting on my bookcase, that I won in 1965. It is tarnished and the engraving is hard to read. If you look closely, you will see that my name is misspelled. However, a year earlier, as a fifteen year old boy, I met someone, who can supply me with rewards that cannot tarnish, and in all these years has never forgotten my name.

In times of trouble, He has always been there to give me the victory. On August 30, 1996, my son Pete died in an automobile accident. It was the most difficult day of my life; it was filled with anger and grief. My friend was there to provide victory when my heart was broken. That friend is Jesus Christ. He will do the same thing for you if you will only receive Him. Not only will He give you victory in this life, but in the life to come. You can have the assurance of knowing that when this life is over, Heaven will be your home. It gives me great comfort to know that I will see Pete again, because Pete received Jesus Christ as a young boy.

We have seen over the past years a number of sports figures that have passed from this life: Malik Sealy, Adam Petty, Dale Earnhart, Derrick Thomas, Fred Lane, Payne Stewart, Sergei Grinkov, Darryl Kile...and the list goes on. No matter how much money or fame we accumulate in this lifetime, we must all pass from this life. The great thing is that Jesus will not only provide his children with a victorious transition from this life to the next, but will provide peace, joy, happiness, and victorious living until we get there.

You ask, "What can I do to earn it?" The answer is nothing; Jesus Christ has already paid the price: His shed blood on the cross. All you have to do is turn from your sin and receive this free gift. Pray this prayer with all your heart and God will give you Real Victory in this life and the life to come:

"Lord, I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus died on the cross for me and that His shed bled will wash away my sins, give me a victorious life, and an eternal home in Heaven. Right now, as best I know how, I turn from my sin, ask Your forgiveness, and receive Jesus Christ as my Savior. In Jesus name, amen."

If you prayed that prayer and meant it, then you have received the forgiveness of God, your reservation in Heaven, and the key to real victory in life: the presence of God in you.
